Tell us about an artist you are excited about and why.

After a long day at Frieze Art Fair, I met up with my 16-year-old son in Regents Park. As we caught up, he asked a similar question; who was my current favourite artist? Despite all the incredible art I had seen that day, my mind immediately went back to a moment a week earlier which had made me truly giddy with excitement.

Turning away from Frieze we jumped into a taxi and headed to the Wallace Collection. There, amid the historic Baroque paintings and suits of armour, we encountered two large works by the immensely talented modern painter Flora Yukhnovich. We both sat there until closing time in sheer wonder, completely absorbed in her swirling compositions, playful use of color, and the way her abstracted figures seemed to pulse with life.

What sets Yukhnovich apart is her ability to blend historical references with contemporary fluidity. Her works aren’t just decorative; they’re immersive and full of emotion. The way she uses colour and form creates a dynamic, almost kinetic sense of movement, like the painting is unfolding before you. It’s playful and fresh, yet deeply rooted in art history. This balance makes her, in my opinion, one of the most exciting painters of her generation.

What made the experience even more memorable was seeing my son, who’s usually immersed in his Xbox, so engaged by the art. It sparked a new connection between us, one I’m grateful for.
